Even the best intentioned of us can reach a plateau in terms of results. After all we've built up a lifetime of poor habits and sometimes it's quite easy to slip back into the old comfort zone. I notice this most when I'm sick. And I'm feeling pretty crappy right now. I want to get comfortable and am tempted to eat nothing but popcorn all day. I'm just not that interested in healthy choices which is exactly what my body needs the most. Of course I'm not giving in. Lots of super shakes instead!
Anyway in terms of the most common reasons we don't achieve results:
Drinking too many sugary beverages
Eating too many convenience foods everyday
Eating too few fruits and vegetables
Eating too little protein
Moving too little
Living a sedentary lifestyle
Plus it's very confusing out there. Mixed messages. Hundreds of "experts" worldwide bombarding us with information devoted to the best exercise, nutrition and supplementation strategies. And then we have the friends and family members providing advice which may be counter to our goals. It's important to stay focused on the big picture. Emphasis on accomplishments such as feeling better, looking better and performing better can boost motivation levels and keep us on track.
As we approach the holiday season with all of it's temptations let's be mindful of what we've achieved so far. And let's not beat ourselves up if we indulge in a treat or two. Everyday is a new beginning, a chance to get back on that plan, the road map to success. It's like planning a trip and straying off the route to take in a sight. Knowing you have the directions to get to your destination is the reassurance you need to achieve the results you want!
