A Plan - First things first. You really gotta know what you wanna share with the world. You need have some sort of theme in order to establish a following. Your theme might even be “random thoughts”. Whatever it is will be what keeps you focussed and creative.
Passion - You gotta be passionate cause you ain’t going to be able to be consistent and keep making those videos if you’re not. Your passion is what’s going to keep you driven and motivated. Maybe another word for passion might be “fun” - you gotta enjoy and love what you’re doing. Your audience will connect with your excitement and enthusiasm. And this isn’t a typical job. You don’t do it for the money, you do it cause you love it! The money may follow, or not…
Authenticity - You gotta be knowledgeable about your theme or topic. Your audience will connect more with you if you’re real. OBV.
Persistence - You gotta be patient. It’s gonna take a while to grow your audience to the point where you can make a few dollars - maybe even years. Unless you get really lucky and have a viral video right off the bat. That don’t happen too often.
Resilience - You gotta be thick-skinned. You’re gonna get haters and “trolls” who are gonna try to bring you down. And don’t expect your friends and families to be your cheerleaders. In fact they may try to talk you out of it and may never subscribe or watch your videos.
Tolerance - Expect everyone (even people who’ve never watched your channel) to give you plenty of advice. How you handle it is your choice but you’re gonna receive it. Trust me. A never ending stream of "You should do...!" Know that it comes from a good place even if it's highly annoying. Lol.
Failure - Expect anything and everything that can go wrong, to go wrong. I have a lot of experience in this area, many surprises! And just when you think you’ve exhausted the list of potential mistakes, new ones will surface. Technology is amazing but not perfect. You are amazing but not perfect! Glitches happen. All the time. Take comfort in the fact that you are not alone.
Education - Rejoice! You’re gonna learn a lot and it’s going to be frustrating and awesome!
Consistency - Make videos and post on a regular schedule - very important to your audience! That means you’re gonna work very hard - maybe harder than you’ve ever worked before. Cause that means when you go on vacation you must have videos ready and banked. Otherwise your audience may lose interest.
Laughter - A strong sense of humor is essential and perhaps the most important asset as a creator because you'll be trying new things and often blundering (aka f'ng up)
- you’re going to need to be able to laugh at yourself! A lot!
